The GRAMP-Med team concludes the archaeological campaign in Alto Arlanza (Burgos) with exceptional results.

02 September 2024

The GRAMP-Med team has successfully completed its archaeological campaign in the Alto Arlanza region, located in the province of Burgos. This year, in addition to continuing research in the village of Revenga, work has begun on the settlement of Rinieblas, located in Canicosa de la Sierra.

In the Revenga site, the work has brought to light, for the first time, a series of structures that make up a dwelling belonging to the second phase of occupation, dated between the 8th and 13th centuries. This discovery represents a significant advancement in understanding the historical evolution of the site.

On the other hand, in the Rinieblas settlement, the excavations have revealed a large rock-cut habitat, which offers promising perspectives for future research. Preliminary results highlight the importance of the site in the archaeological context of the region.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Provincial Council of Burgos and the municipalities of Canicosa de la Sierra, Regumiel de la Sierra, and Quintanar de la Sierra for their invaluable support, without which this project would not have been possible. We also extend our thanks to the students and researchers from the Archaeology and History programs at the University of Barcelona, whose dedication and effort have been fundamental to the success of this campaign.

GRAMP-Med continues to work enthusiastically to advance the archaeological knowledge of the region and looks forward to sharing more discoveries in the near future.
